A good nail care is an important part of having a good appearance that is why more and more people are trying to seek professional nail treatments. Nail technicians are licensed professionals that specialize in a variety if nail services for customers to help them feel good and at their best. Nail technicians are also called as manicurists or pedicurists are beauty specialists that give care on the nails and toenails by providing a variety of services for their customers. They offer manicures, pedicures, they shape the clients nails, groom their cuticles, polish nails, apply or remove artificial nails and put on different kinds of nail arts. They are utilizing different kinds of materials like acrylic, gel, airbrush, gems and glitters. Nail technicians must also follow a safe and sanitary procedure not only to protect themselves but also their clients. It is important for them to also know how to disinfect and sanitize all used equipments and work areas before and after every procedure. They must also replace old and worn out tools and materials. Other duty of a nail technician includes record keeping, making appointments and selling various nail care products.

The duties of a nail technician depend on the kind of employer or business where they work. A lot of nail technicians work specifically on nail or beauty salons where their duties are focused on providing treatment for the client’s toenails and fingernails. The nail technician’s job is to clip, file and buff the client’s nails. They may also apply and remove acrylic nails, silk nails and nail arts. Depending on the law of the state and the preferences of the clients, nail technicians may be allowed to remove calluses or cuticles around the nails, cleans and prepares the clients skin after. When a nail technician is working in health spas or high end salons they are expected to give hand and foot massages creating an environment that is relaxing. Nail technicians are also expected to maintain cleanliness in their work areas and to build a trusting relationship with the clients.

Nail technicians need a high school diploma or GED when planning to enroll in a nail technician school. They must also complete the formal training offered by the school. A lot of nail technicians obtain different positions in beauty facilities to gain practical experience and improve job opportunities. Nail technicians must also stay up to date on the latest trends and technology and must participate in different seminars, workshops and other continuing education courses. After graduating from a nail technician school, they are required to take and pass a written and practical examination offered by the Licensing Commission for Cosmetology of the State.

So how much do these nail technicians make? Nail technicians with one to four years of working experience can earn an average hourly rate of $8 to $15. Those with five to nine years of experience earn an average hourly rate of $10 to $20. A career as a nail technician is an excellent choice for people who want to provide nail services to their clients. They must have a good communication skill to be able to react with different clients.
