The sonogram is a valuable diagnostic tool in the medical field. Sonograms allow physicians to view the patient’s internal organs in real time so they are able to provide an accurate diagnosis for the patient’s condition. Many attribute the use of sonograms as a way for mothers to view their unborn babies, but the applications for sonography extends far beyond that. Sonograms can be used to view any organ in the body, be it heart, liver, lungs, brain or gallbladder, the possibilities are endless. In the heart of it all is the technician who deftly performs the procedure on the patient. Sonograms are ideal diagnostic tools for a variety of reasons. First, it needs little or no preparation time, making it quite ideal for patients that need immediate attention. Secondly, it does not use dangerous dyes or expose the patient to harmful rays, so patients with any conditions are accepted. Thirdly, the results are extremely accurate as the pictures can be recorded and seen in real time, making this the tool of preference for physicians seeking immediate results.
Ultrasound technicians can work in a variety of health care settings. Be it the doctor’s office, hospital, private owned diagnostic centers or public health care facilities, they are really in demand as their job growth is expected to rise within the next decade. Interpersonal relationships are prevalent in this job as technicians are continually exposed to a lot of different personalities and they need to use their full potential as someone who is able to establish rapport immediately.
Ultrasound technician’s salary is dependent on a lot of factors. A deciding factor for any employer would be the number of years in experience the technician has had. The lesser the experience, the lesser the salary. Entry level technicians are at a great disadvantage because they only have the experience they gained when they were students, thus their pay starts at a decent $40,000-$60,000 annually. In today’s competitive world, the only way to get ahead of everyone else is through education and perseverance. A bachelor’s degree holder earns a bigger salary than someone who has an associate’s degree. This is because a bachelor’s degree takes 4 years to accomplish, whereas an associate’s degree takes only two.
It is imperative that the school you go to is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Professionals as you would want to obtain proper certification as an ultrasound technician once you graduate. Certification is earned by passing a test provided by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Ultrasound technicians can also set themselves apart from the crowd by specializing in one of the many branches in sonography. These specialties provide a very fine detail into the ultrasound technician’s skills, making it easy for employers to determine whether his presence is needed or not. These specialties include echocardiography or ultrasound of the heart, breast sonography, OB/GYN sonography, vascular sonography for veins, neurosonography or ultrasound of the brain and nervous system, and abdominal sonography for ultrasound that involves the spleen, liver, gallbladder, and bladder.

Emergency medical technicians or EMT’s play an important role in saving peoples life during times of emergencies. One should possess the proper mind set when pursuing this career. It is not a simple task to save ones life during emergencies. They should be emotionally stable to be able to handle morbid situations. EMT’s should be physically fit and agile to be able to extract the sick or the injured without worries. Extra care and caution should be applied to prevent aggravation of wounds or diseases. These are important qualities that an EMT or paramedic should have.
Other skills can be acquired through education. It is important to choose the best-qualified accredited schools in pursuing this course. You are responsible for handling people’s life during emergency. Schools offer progressive training for EMT’s. The stages are EMT-Basic, EMT- Intermediate, and the most advance is the EMT- Paramedic. It’s up to your skill and capability to progress on different levels. It is recommended that graduates should pass certification and licensure to be able to practice in different states in the US. You would find it hard to get an employer if you are not licensed or certified.
It’s highly relevant that you have the proper knowledge on how to handle a specific situation. You should make the most out of your training. Take is slow and digest all the knowledge you have learn from different levels of EMT’s. Take each level at a time before jumping into another. Remember that you are handling human lives.
The employment rate is relatively high in this field of study. More medical establishments require the service of these personnel on a regular basis. There are a number of EMT volunteers but it’s much preferred to have regular employers to respond to emergencies. Population growth and the growing number of age people also contribute to the demand. Other medical practitioners take up EMT’s or paramedics just to test their capabilities. They do not plan to stick on this job since they pursue other higher medical fields. Replacing them would present more jobs for graduate EMT’s. Being hired in a government agency such as fire and police department would present more opportunities for aspiring EMT’s. The salary may vary from geographical location, level of skills and experience.
If you want a high salary, then your goal should be employed in a government agency since the benefits and salary is much higher compared to private sectors. Its not easy to get hired in this sector. You should be highly skilled and trained. As mention earlier, make the most out of your training and continue to pursue advance educational level in EMT. Having advance skills and certification could present more opportunities in highly favorable employers such as government agencies. Dedication and perseverance could help you promote your status. It’s meaningless to pursue this career if you don’t have the passion for saving lives and caring for the needy. You should offer your heart and mind to be able to operate well in this type of job.

In today’s advance technology and population growth, one of the in demand jobs by the medical society is the Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Sonographers operate imaging devices to produce diagnostic images for physicians.
Employment growth in health care service is expected. The health service providers still use ultrasound to describe a safer alternative and more profitable radiological method. Ultrasound imaging technology is likely to evolve fast and give birth to many new sonography procedures, which lets you scan and ultrasound image areas of the body where ultrasound has not been traditionally used.
Diagnostic imaging adopts several procedures that can help diagnose the disease. The popular procedures include X-rays and MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, but not all imaging technologies utilized ionizing radiation or radio waves. Ultrasound or sonography is the utilization of sound waves to produce images for evaluation and diagnosis of various diseases. Ultrasound is often affiliated with obstetrics and the utilization of ultrasound throughout maternity, but this technology has much other use in the diagnosis and treatment of unusual conditions of the body.
Sonographers used and operate the equipment that collects reflected resonance and forms an image that can be recorded in video or photograph for interpretation and diagnosis by a doctor.
Medical Sonographer explains the procedure to the patient and records any medical history that maybe relevant to the condition. They select appropriate equipment and instruct patients to change positions that will give the best picture. Sonographers use the sensor, which sends sound waves into a bar shaped like a cone or rectangular. Although techniques differ from that area, ultrasound usually dispersed a special gel on the skin to support the transmission of the sound waves to the beam.
During scanning, sonographers view the screen and search for fine visual cues that separate the healthy areas unhealthy for them. They choose whether the images are satisfactory for diagnosis and choose what to keep and show the doctor. Sonographer measures calculate values and analyze the results as initial findings for the physicians.
There are several options for entering the field of sonography. Aspiring sonography may be train in hospitals, vocational schools and technical colleges or universities, or the armed forces. Some programs favor applicants with experience in health care or even just a high school graduates with courses in math, science and health.
College schools and universities offer formal training in both 2-year and four-year course leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree. Programs finished in two years are most common. Course activities include the study in anatomy, physiology, instrumentation, physics, patient care and medical ethics. In 2008, the accredit commission approved more than 150 training programs. These programs are offered by different colleges and universities. Programs offered by some hospitals are also accredited.
The earning for this career is striking. Diagnostic Medical Sonographer’s salary ranges from $40,000 to $70,000. This may vary on experience, qualification, position and location of work. As sonography is becoming a popular alternative to radiological procedures, job prospects are excellent. Since sonography does not involve radiation, there are fewer adverse side effects and complications with repeated use. Most of Sonographers work in hospitals, but because of the increase in outpatient care, employment growth will also occur to sonographers who work in doctor’s offices and diagnostic laboratories outside hospitals.

So, what did you want to be when you grew up? I know I didnt want to do what I do now thats for sure. You can only take so much of a job you absolutely hate!! Well it does pay the bills and gives me a little freedom because I work for family, but like I mentioned the other day, Ive got to really buckle down and choose a real career before its too late for me to get out of this life routine.
I think when I was a little kid I really wanted to be an astronaut, but who didn’t? As I got a little older I realized I had a real love for animals, and thought that I would pursue a career as either a veterinarian or a veterinarian Tech, or assistant. After I graduated high school I decided I would take a few years off of education altogether and just go straight to work for my uncle. He owns a mattress store, and I worked for him for time as a sales rep. Sales is okay, but I hate the fact that I have to rely on a commission off of every sale.
In recent months I’ve worked out a deal with him where I can have Tuesdays and Thursdays off so that I can attend our local community college. I know he is somewhat upset, as he knows that when I graduate I will no longer be working for him, but at the same time he realizes that I have to do what’s right for me.
Our community college is nice, and offers a lot of two-year programs that will allow me to get in and out as fast as I possibly can, while knowing that I will have a good job when I graduate that will earn me upwards of 40 or $50,000 per year. Of course I know I will not graduate and immediately start making that kind of money, but it’s nice to know that in the near future I can work up to that amount as opposed to where I am now, I have pretty much maxed out my annual income.
With the economy as horrible as it has been lately, sales are few and far between and who knows when it’s going to get any better. I figure I would go into a career field that I know for a fact will always have a need for employees. If you didn’t guess it, it’s the medical field. After much consideration and for thought, I decided I would pursue radiology technology.
Basically I will be an x-ray technician, and deal with broken bones and sick people most of the time, but I have a friend who does it and she loves it and has nothing but good things to say about it. I figure if she can do it I know that I can do it as well. She said that when she graduated from DeVry University, she landed a job making $36,000 a year immediately. They also even help her find the job that she still currently has. I thought that was pretty awesome, especially for only going to school for two years.
The cool thing about being a radiology technician is the fact that you don’t just have to work for a hospital. There are many little clinics that offer an awesome salary with a lot less of a hectic schedule, and usually not as many patients come through their offices on a daily basis as a large hospital. Not sure exactly where I want to work, I may even try and get a job working at a dentist office taking x-rays of people’s teeth. I’m a really big people person, and I get along really good with just about anybody.
So anyways as I learn more about the career I’ve chosen, I’ll post up some more interesting facts and finds that I may come across through my studies. However, don’t expect me to spend all my time on my blog writing about my boring school and career life. I still have a good social life and spend many of my nights and weekends hangout with my friends and having a good time.

In an attempt to end my stay at this dead end job, I have enrolled my self in a small community college here in Texas. I started off taking my basic classes cause I had no clue in the world what I wanted to do when I started. I think I found that most people you talk to had very little direction as to where they where they were going or what they wanted to accomplish by going to school.
About half way through my first semester I decided I would really buckle down and focus a lot of my extra time really trying to decide what direction I want my education to take me. Did I really want to spend the next 2 years or more going to school not even going for what I would like to land a job in after I was finished.
So long story short, the answer to that was of course no. I knew that by going to school I would be able to get a better job, but just because a job makes more money does not mean I will enjoy it more. Its nice to earn extra money, but if I am gonna take the time to learn something I want to enjoy what I am learning.
Instead of choosing a college course that would take me 4 years to complete I thought I would look into some shorter, skill based programs. I was shocked to find out what people where earning with a 2 year degree. Not to share exactly what I make per year, but they were making almost double right after graduation with huge room for growth.
I also really started researching what factors of the career choice program I chose would help me to find a job faster. Is that job field in need of employees? Or is that market flooded. What is the graduation percentage of people who took the same courses as me, and do I feel that I am smart enough to finish the course successfully. The last thing I wanted was to start a career program and not finish. So I selectively looked through about 15 different career training programs until I found what I though would suit me the best.
After talking with a counselor at my school, I even found that they offered help with job placement after I graduated if I kept my scores up and showed that I was truley there to learn and better myself. Its a lot to take in and really was a little bit stressful, but I know it will pay off in the end. I chose a 2 year course as an x ray tech and will explain a bit more about it in the coming days or weeks when I have some more time to blog about it.
